S'Oaur is aggressive, proud, territorial, and fiercely protective of the creatures he considers his people. He harbors a deep hatred toward people as a result of his home being destroyed, believing that other races inherently view creatures like himself as inferior, unintelligent, and undeserving of the same right to exist peacefully. This has developed into a mild inferiority complex: S'Oaur is particularly sensitive to perceived disrespect and interprets aggression against creatures as confirmation that the outside world sees them as weak. Despite his brutality toward his enemies, he possesses genuine loyalty toward his community and holds Lord Gran in extremely high regard. His ability to speak also makes his intelligence immediately apparent in a way that is uncommon among the creatures encountered around Sato.

Long before he attacked Sato Village, S'Oaur lived alongside Lord Gran and numerous other creatures in a small settlement hidden within the forest. Although many races assume creatures possess low intelligence because most cannot speak, this is largely a misconception. Many creatures are capable of comprehending complex ideas, using tools, cooperating with one another, and forming functioning communities. Their apparent lack of intelligence often stems from biology: many simply lack the physical ability to produce speech comprehensible to Orsins, Nikolians, Animus, and other races. S'Oaur is unusual because he can communicate through conventional speech.
As The Academy's influence expanded outward and missions brought people farther beyond their traditional territories, outsiders eventually encountered S'Oaur's community. The resulting conflict ended with S'Oaur and Lord Gran defeating the attackers, but their village was destroyed in the process. With their home gone and the survival of their community increasingly uncertain, S'Oaur and other capable creatures began scouting forests and distant lands for somewhere with the climate, resources, and food necessary to establish a new settlement. Lord Gran remained behind with the weakest members of the community, using his unusual abilities to protect and sustain them.
S'Oaur eventually became interested in the area surrounding Sato Village after numerous weaker creatures sent into the region repeatedly failed to return. Investigating personally, he discovered the human settlement and, already embittered by the destruction of his own home, immediately regarded it as both a potential new home for his people and another example of outsiders killing creatures without concern for their lives.
