Meema is motherly, caring, sweet, and naturally nurturing, with much of her identity centered around caring for the people around her. She strongly dislikes violence and attempts to avoid conflict whenever possible, preferring healing, diplomacy, and compassion. Her kindness notably extends to Jhe despite the animosity much of Sato Village directs toward him. Rather than sharing the villagers' suspicion of him, Meema sees Jhe almost as a son. Her temperament and practical wisdom have also made her an unofficial matriarch of Sato Village. Although the village chief formally oversees matters such as the distribution of resources, Chief Pimento—as well as chiefs before him—regularly consults Meema when making decisions concerning the village's basic needs.

Meema is a short and slightly pudgy, woman who often keeps her hair short. She has puffy cheeks and freckles and is known for having a warm and comforting smile.

Meema is the older sister of Salza and has spent much of her life in the extremely remote Sato Village. When she was younger, she suffered a miscarriage despite deeply wanting a family of her own. Her husband, a member of the village guard, was later killed in battle. These losses left Meema without the family she once envisioned, but her maternal nature instead became directed toward the wider village. Over time, she became an important caretaker within Sato and developed an extensive knowledge of the creatures and natural resources surrounding the village. She uses this knowledge to produce medicines and potions and has become known as an exceptionally talented healer.
Unknown to most of Sato Village, Meema is also capable of extremely basic healing magic. She has secretly used this ability to treat villagers injured during monster attacks, although her patients generally attribute their recoveries to her medical knowledge and supposed "healing touch." Meema was already living in Sato when Mushin arrived with the orphaned Jhe and Karina. Mushin told her that their parents were "missing," leaving Meema unaware that they had actually been killed. He did reveal to her that Jhe was an Orsin, but this meant relatively little to Meema. Sato is so geographically isolated that it does not even appear on conventional maps, and Meema consequently knows little about the Orsins or the Great War that shaped much of the outside world.
