Mayoni had an older brother who was a part of the guard. He would often encourage Mayoni to be a better person and tap into her inner resilience. She admired her brother deeply. However, during an expedition outside of the village, he was killed by monsters.
[In Sato Village, the rank 2 soldier often leads expeditions outside of the village in which a small group of highly trained soldiers who have extreme cohesion with each other venture off into the nearby forest. The purpose of the expedition is to gather resources, kill small groups of monsters to prevent them from potentially moving too close to the village, and learn more about newly discovered plants and creatures. Expeditions are very valuable to village but are typically extremely dangerous since they often last for days].
Mayoni, in memory of her brother, attempted to join the guard in order to live up to his standards and one day find her inner resilience.
